Enhanced User Experience at Brampton Civic Hospital
Big changes are underway at Brampton Civic Hospital to ensure your visit is easier and less stressful. Since the hospital first opened its doors in 2007, the facility and its services have evolved. Over the years, numerous changes to clinical destinations and nomenclature have chipped away at the wayfinding system's clarity. As a result, the signage system no longer works effectively. In addition, the naming conventions for elevators (Rose, Leaf, Sun, and Snow) have become obsolete as they are not being used correctly nor consistently throughout the system, creating unnecessary confusion for anyone navigating the large facility.
Putting People First, One Experience at a Time
To tackle this challenge, Artellix conducted a thorough wayfinding audit to analyze the current system and identify key gaps. We also consulted with the wayfinding committee, and interviewed volunteers as well as front-end staff encountered during the audit. The result is a revamped strategy focused on creating an intuitive and easy-to-use zoning system.
Our goal was to deliver the change to the hospital's navigation systematically while being mindful of its resources. Our strategy maximizes the reuse of the existing signage products, only filling in the necessary gaps to implement the new, cohesive look and logic.
We are excited to announce the first phase of implementation is underway and focusing on core elements to immediately improve clarity:
Elevator Name Synchronization: Elevator names are being updated to synchronize with the name sequence of the entrances. This simple change creates an immediate, logical connection for visitors and staff.
Intuitive Zoning System: A clear and intuitive zoning system has been established across the entire hospital to help users quickly orient themselves and understand the direction of their destination.
Main Floor Retrofit: Wayfinding directional information and its hierarchy of information throughout the main floor and at all major thresholds are being updated. This ensures that visitors’ first point of contact is clear and consistent with the new strategy.
This initial phase is just the beginning of a larger commitment to enhancing the user experience at Brampton Civic Hospital. We believe these upgrades will significantly reduce stress and improve its visitor journey.
There will be more to come as we continue the implementation process. Stay tuned for updates on the next phases of the Brampton Civic Hospital wayfinding project!
